He married Sarah Louisa Simons in May 1857 then in June they emigrated to New Zealand on the ship "Oriental" arriving at Nelson in October 1857.

His parents were G.F. Muntz M.P. for Birmingham 1794-1857 and Eliza Pryce 1798-1873, who was the daughter of the Rev. John Pryce M.A., J.P., of Dolforwyn Hall Montgomeryshire and Vicar of Bettws 1770-1836 and her mother was his first wife Mary Devereux who died in 1820.
