Desmond Murray was born on 6th September 1902 at St Michael's, Sandycove Avenue West, Co. Dublin, Ireland. He is the son of Hugh Murray (a railway clerk) and Josephine Farrell.[1] It was a large family and Desmond had five brothers and three sisters.
In 1911, Desmond was an 8-year-old schoolboy living with his parents and siblings at 11 Sandycove Avenue, Kingstown, Dublin. [2]
Desmond married Sheelagh Tyson on 22nd February 1933 at Dalkey church. His brother Paul was a witness. At this time, Desmond's occupation was recorded as a merchant sailor.[3]
Desmond and Sheelagh had three children, as follows:
Pauline MP born in 1936
Timothy J born in 1939
Brian D born in 1941
Sheelagh died in 1972 and Desmond lived on another 18 years as a widower. He died on 16th March 1990 in Dublin. He is buried in Deansgrange cemetery with his wife and mother. [4] [5]

Desmond was probably baptised soon after his birth as was the practice at this time, but no record has been found. Further research is needed.
