Notes
The 1850 census shows William Myers, age 23, born in Indiana, living with Ira Stout in Brookville Township, Franklin County, Indiana. His occupation is illegible, but he is shown holding 0 in real estate. This census also shows Elizabeth Stout, age 18, who later became his wife, living with her father.
The 1860 U. S. Census shows Willaim and Elizabeth are still in Brookville and well on their way to a sizable family. At this point in time, the family includes John M., age 10; Alice R., age 7; Salisha Viola, age 5; Ira Eugene, age 3; and Mattie E., age 7 months. This census incorrectly shows Salisha Viola as a male. This census also shows William as a farmer, born in Ohio, and lists his wealth as ,600 in real estate and ,000 in personal property.
1870 U. S. Census shows that the family is still living in Brookville and has expanded even more. New members include Charles, age 8; Lydia E., age 5; Ada, age 4; and William , age 1. There are numerous errors in this census including misspelling of the family name as "Meyers" and several instances of using middle or nicknames instead of actual first names. Salisha Viola is listed only as Viola, Ira Eugene is listed only as "Ugene", and William is shown as Willie. Additionally, Ira is listed in this census as a female. Alice R. Myers no longer appears with the family in this census. It is believed that this is because the Alice R. "Meyers" shown in the Franklin Co., Indiana Marriage Records, who married John S. Kennedy in 1868, is actually Alice R. Myers. This means she married at the age of 15.
1880 U. S. Census shows the family still living in Brookville with the expected changes. John, Viola, and Ira are no longer with the family.
Ira can be found in the 1880 U.S. Census listed as "Eugene" living in Browns Grove Township, Pawnee Co., Kansas.
John and Viola have not been located during research to date after the 1880 census.
William Myers funeral Brookville Democrat July 26 1906 Funeral of William Myers William Myers, of Whitcomb, whose death was announced in our last week’s issue, was buried in the Big Cedar Cemetery at noon Sunday, July 22nd. He was a member of the order of Red Men and after the services in the church by Rev. W. R. Thom, of Brookville, the remains were quietly laid to rest with the honors of the order. In accordance with the wishes of the deceased no obituary was read at the services, merely the dates of his birth and death and his age being given. These show that he was born August 3, 1826, and died July 19, 1906, being 79 years. 11 months and 16 days old. In his life time he had often expressed the wish that display be avoided on this occasion and this wish was carried out in every detail. The family and all that had to do with arranging the funeral, strove to make his burial like his life had been, beautiful, in that it was genuine.
