Biography

Adaline was born in 1851, the daughter of Joseph Myser and Catherine Shanks.^[1] She married Lincoln Masters about 1905 (no marriage record found). Addie passed away in 1927 and is buried at Greentown Cemetery in Stark County, Ohio. [NOTE: her date of birth is WRONG on her grave marker.]

Notes and Inconstancies

There is considerable discrepancy in Adaline's date of birth, even before she married. However, the family history, the 1860 Census and the 1900 Census support the 1851 birth date. The fact that her husband was 20 years younger than she and that they married so late in her life likely affected her "reported" age after 1900.

—The 1900 Census (Jun 1900) shows her with her sisters and gives her age as 48, with birth Oct 1851.^[6]

—The 1910 Census (April 1910) shows her age as 49 (b Oct 1860).^[7]

—The 1920 Census shows her age as 64 (b Oct 1855).^[8]

—Her death certificate gives her DOB as 12 Oct 1856. Informant on the certificate was her husband.^[9]

—Her grave marker shows DOB of 1860 (year only).^[10]
