Gabriel Ludlow Nase was born on 29th June 1822 in St John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of Philip Nase and Amy Haveland. [1]
He migrated to the Colony of Victoria (Australia) in 1852, initially following the gold discoveries at Maryborough, Dunolly, Creswick and Ballarat. It is believed that he was at the Eureka Stockade in December 1854. [2]
Gabriel married English emigrant Anna Toose in 1864 in Victoria (Australia). [3] Settling at Ullina, a small rural locality between Clunes and Smeaton and establishing a pastoral property, Clover Hill Estate, they had four children, however, Anna died in 1877.
Gabriel concentrated on local mines and was on the board of directors of nearly the whole of the early alluvial companies on the Berry Lead, including the major shafts Australasian, Ristori, and Berry Consols. He was a councillor representing the north riding of the Shire of Creswick for around 29 years; a life governor to the Clunes and Creswick Hospitals, and a Justice of the Peace for around 40 years. [4]
He passed away, aged 80 years, in 1902 in Ullina. [5][6]
