Mary Neenan was born on 14 February 1896 at Carradota, County Clare, Ireland. She was the daughter of National School Teacher Thomas Neenan and his wife Catherine Neenan formerly Nugent[1].
Mary's mother Catherine Neenan died on 6 September 1897. Catherine Neenan, 38 year old married woman of Killimer, wife of a school teacher, died of "Rupture of the Uterus, Hemorrhage". Thomas Neenan, husband of Killimer was present at the death and the informant[2].
In the 1901 Irish Census, taken 31 March 1901, 5 year old Mary Neenan is living in the household of Anne Neenan as a boarder[3].
In the 1911 Irish Census, taken 2 April 1911, Mary is again living with her father and older siblings at Killimer, County Clare, Ireland[4].
Research Notes
The reason for Mary being "boarded" out is obvious as her mother died shortly after her birth but the relationship between her and Anne Neenan is not yet established. Presumably if there was a relationship it would be between Mary's father Thomas Neenan and Anne Neenan's deceased husband James Neenan.
