John was born in 1777, Virginia. He was the son of Basel Nelson, and Rebecca MNU.
He married Susannah Boaz in 1803, Pittsylvania, VA. [1]
Two daughters of this marriage are known:
The 1820 Pittsylvania, Virginia census enumerates him with his wife and living nearby relatives such as Samuel Elliott (married to Susannah's sister Mary). [2] John and Susannah later moved to Bedford, TN.
The census for 1830, Bedford[3] shows they are in the 50-59 age group, with two daughters and one son in the h/h. There are also eight slaves.
1840 census, Bedford, TN:[4]John Nelson and his wife are now in the 60-69 age group. They now have thirteen slaves, making for a total of 15 in the household. Living nearby are known relatives of Susannah Boaz Nelson, Lydia Boaz and William Boaz.
1850 census, Bedford, TN: John and Susannah are alone listed in the census. John is age 73, Susannah age 75.[5]
John Nelson passed away some time after 1850.
