JOHN R. NELSON DEAD
Pioneer Farmer of the Tammany Section Passed Away Yesterday - Establisher His Home There in 1850; Survived by Large Family.
John R. Nelson, highly respected pioneer of the Lewiston country, died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the family home in Tammany Hollow, where he had resided for over 30 years. The death of Mr. Nelson was not entirely unexpected by relatives, for he had been in failing health for several years, being afflicted with a kidney ailment. However, he remained cheerful and confident almost to the last and but a few days ago made a trip to Lewiston.
Mr. Nelson was born October 30, 1841, in Adams county, Illinois. In the year 1862 he crossed the plains and at that time visited Lewiston, but returned to the middle west in 1863. From Illinois he moved to Iowa and in 1876 came to California, proceeding thence to the Walla Walla country where he located a homestead and timber claim. In 1880 he came to Lewiston and in the same year located the farm in Tammany which has since been his home.
