Biography

Grace Newcomb, daughter of Andrew,the mariner, and Grace Newcomb , was born Oct. 10, 1664. She married first, James Butler, born Aug. 2, 1665, son of Stephen and Jane Butler of Boston. (p. 93; p. 96) ^[1] (p. 24-5)^[2]

He died in 1689 at the age of 24 years. On Aug. 29, 1689, his widow Grace was appointed administratrix of the estate, as her husband James Butler shipwright, died intestate. (p. 27) ^[2](p. 182) ^[3] (p. 13) ^[4] In that Will, he gave his wife Grace an estate near the Mill Bridge in Boston. (p. 14) ^[4]

• Grace born May 2, 1685; died March 1759; married Thomas Jackson, son of John and Elizabeth Jackson on Dec. 26, 1706. (p. 26; p. 29) ^[2]

• Elizabeth born Dec. 23, 1686; married ___ Savage. ^[2]

• James born Aug. 21, 1688; died 1715; married Abigail Eustiss on April 6, 1710 at the Old South Church. (p. 26; p. 29-30) His first wife died in Dec. 15, 1713. He married second, Mary Bowditch of Salem. (p. 181-2) ^[2]

Grace Newcomb Butler married second, Andrew Rankin on April 15, 1692. (p. 26) ^[2] (p. 208) ^[1] He was the son of Andrew and Martha (Merry) Rankin of the Isle of Shoals. In his will dated Aug. 10, 1699, her first husband gave Grace an estate near the Mill Bridge in Boston. (p. 14) ^[4]

Grace died in August 1713, her will being proved Aug. 28th. (p. 14) ^[4]
