Biography

Johannes Joseph Nijssen, born 13 December 1838[1] in ’s-Gravenhage, son of Johannes Joseph Nijssen and Anna Catharina Magdalena Sulders. He died 26 February 1856[2] in de Jacobs Kazerne in ‘s’-Hertogenbosch. He committed suicide by shooting a rifle in the head [3]. By order of the government an investigation is being launched into the circumstances under which this can happen[4]

Johannes Joseph Nijssen had volunteered for military service in 1854 and was enlisted at the Instruction Bataillon. In 1856 he was transferred to the 2nd Regisment Infantry where he served as a corporal with the 4th Bataillon[5]
