Biography

Karl Oskar Nilsson was born 2 May 1891 in Malmö Sankt Pauli, to unknown parents. Witnesses was wife Gertrud Pålsson and wife Karna Johansson from the neighborhood Gladan.^[1] The real motherMaria Nilsson (1856-1935) from Lund is added to the birth record when she is acknowledging the child as hers on 8 Feb 1915. The "child" being 24 years old at this point.^[2]

Kar Oskar was christened on the 28th of June and is registered in the neighborhood Gladan, number III. It is unclear who he is taken care by, the witnesses are not registered on this address, but there is quite a few foster children in the same household. Head of the household was sailor Peter Olof Johansson and his wife Karna Lundh. Karl Oskar is supposed to be moved to Lund, but was changed to Malmö Caroli parish. He is however not found in the moving in records in Caroli.^[3]

He shows up in Lund in the 1900 census ^[4]and also in the 1910 census in Lund stadsförsamling as living in the household of clothes maker Anders Nilsson and his wife Anna, his grandparents and is registered as a student of music. His mother is registered on the same address.^[5]

Karl Oskar married Ester Constantia Bergdahl on 8 Sep 1912. Their children were:

1. Elsa Margit Nilsson
2. Alf Birger Nilsson
3. Nils Yngve Bertil Nilsson
4. Alf Birger Nilsson.

By the time Alf is born he is registered as a pianist with the adress Palm 1 in Ystad.^[6]

Karl Oskar died in 1968 in Lund domkyrka, Malmöhus aged ~77.^[7]

Research Notes

In Ystad parish records registered with the birth date 21 May, in the death index the 25th. Only one Carl Oscar born in Sankt Petri parish in May which is on the 2nd. The mother is said to have been 26 years old but is rarely correct, it is the only private information required to be given and many did not give the correct information out. He is moved to Lund and ends up living in the household of his likely grandparents, as a woman acknowledging him has the same name as a daughter of the head of the household and is from the correct town.
