John was born about 1832. He is the son of William Nixon and Sarah Unknown.
In 1840, John lived with his parents and siblings in Talbot County, Ga., next door to his (paternal) grandmother, Elizabeth Nixon.
John married Frances A. Wyatt on 18 September 1851 in Talbot, Georgia.
After Frances passed away, John remarried to Falista A. E. (Watson) Battle in Taylor County, Ga., on 27 Dec 1877.
In 1911, John and family moved from Taylor County, to Manchester in Meriwether County, Ga.
He passed away in 1912.
To confirm that the 1880 census, with new wife in new location, is the same John W. Nixon, notice the son, John E. Nixon.
Notice that Falista's previous married name may have been "Buttes", per the "stepdaughter", Martha P. Buttes... BUT... this appears to be an error... her name may have been "Battle" instead, and there is a marriage record for John Nixon to F. A. E. Battle. Confirmed! Falista A. E. Watson had married John Battle (or Battles) in 1867.
Wife's previous marriage to John Battle(s):
In April of 1911 (or recently before), John Nixon and family moved to Manchester, Meriwether County, Ga.
In 1840, to confirm his parents, there are only 3 Nixon families listed in Georgia at this time. The other 2 were both in Coweta County. There is only the one Nixon family in Talbot County (where John married)... "Wm. H. Nixon".
In regards to the stepdaughter...:
Her correct maiden surname appears to have been "Battle", and she appears to have been the "Mattie Battle" who married William Brady on 6 Nov 1887 in Taylor County, Ga.
