The family was found in the 1841 England and Wales Census.[8]The household was enumerated as follows:
Nicholas Norrish Male 45
Susanna Norrish Female 45 Devon
Joshua Norrish Male 15 Devon
Nicholas Norrish Male 15 Devon
Elizabeth Norrish Female 15 Devon
George Norrish Male 10 Devon
Nicholas had leased a few acres of the Huccaby estate on which he kept a horse, a cow and 100 sheep that were pastured in Dartmoor. His father William had left him a legacy of 50 pounds and his wife's father a legacy of 40 pounds. That money plus the sale of the sheep, wheat, furniture and farm implements enabled them to migrate to Canada.
They sailed on the Cosmopolite, a three masted ship, from Plymouth, Devon on Friday April 1, 1843, landing in Quebec City 4 weeks later (April 28th 1843).
The family went to Kingston, Ontario, to spend a few days with Nicholas's brother, Joshua, who had been in Canada for a few years. The family arrived in Nassagaweya around June 1, 1843 and met up with their relatives, the Easterbrooks who had been living there for a dozen years and were waiting for them.
Nicholas passed away at age 65 in 1860 and was interred in the Ebenezer United Church Cemetery, Campbellville, Halton Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada[9]
