Hi, I am Dorothy, a WikiTree mentor!! Are you enjoying your time on WikiTree so far?
Now that you have had a little time to try our site, there are a few more features you may find useful:
For instance, ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards; including some tips on writing biographies
Also a friendly reminder about adding sources and references to your profile. Sources are critically important for genealogy and you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from. This page describes different kinds of sources: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources
I wanted to suggest that you add additional tag(s) to show any surnames, locations or historical events that you're researching. Once you save your tags, you'll be able to click them and see a list of other WikiTree genealogists who are also researching those subjects. For surnames, there will be another tab on that page that shows you all of the profiles with that name.
You'll also get notifications in your daily & weekly emails when there is activity relevant to your tags.
The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.
WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we work together on our share ancestors!
When you confirm your email address, youll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history.
Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests. It can be a name, like SMITH, or a place, like SCOTLAND. Be sure to click the "Enter Tag(s) and Volunteer" button when you finish!
When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!
