Standish was the second son of Darby O'Grady and Faith Standish.[1]
In February 1641, Faith Standish O'Grady stated that rebels had come "at night to the castle of Knockmoyne in Hospital were the deponent then resided". Her two sons, Thomas and Standish, were taken to the rebels' camp at Adare, where they were stripped and ordered to be hung by Lord Castleconnell, but were saved by the intercession of others.[2] Hence we know that these two sons were born before 1641.
