Biography

Andrew appears to have been born about 1520 son to Patrick Ogilvy of Inchmartine and his spouse Mariota Stewart.

His father, Patrick Ogilvy of Inchmartine, granted to Andrew the lands of Drymmie in the barony of Baledgarno to be held of Patrick. This charter was witnessed by James Ogilvy, David Ogilvy, William Schathlok, Master Robert Ogilvy vicar of Leuchars at Inchmartine 20 Sep 1548. It was confirmed by Royal Charter in January 1549. [1]

Following the death of his father, Andrew along with his uncle, Andrew Ogilvy, was appointed tutor to his young half-brother, Andrew. On 13 Feb 1558/59 a summons was made by William Ogilvy now of Inchmartine against his young half-brother Andrew and his tutors regarding the life-rents made by their deceased father, Patrick, out of the 4 oxgangs of land of the Westoun of Inchmartin. In December 1568 when his brother german, John, was granted a charter of the lands of Durdie Inglis the charter gave a tailie of the lands in the event of John dying without issue this naming Andrew in the first instance. This charter receive Royal confirmation on 1 Mar 1585/6 [3]

Andrew married Elizabeth Ogilvy, Lady Migvie. She was probably of an Angus family as she also had ownership of Longbank which like Migvie is in the parish of Kirriemuir and associated with Ogilvy of Inverquharity.

Andrew had issue but it is not discovered whether this was by Elizabeth:

  • James executor by his testament dative confirmed by the Commissary of St Andrews13 November 1588. [4]

On 28 Apr 1582 an Action was brought by Elizabeth Ogilvie Lady Migvie and Andrew Ogilvie of Drymie her spouse, against William Glendy in Langbank in Forfarshire, to flit and remove from there by a decree of their Lordships of 9th August 1580. [5]

Andrew died in November 1588 and as his gear was divided in three parts, he was survived by his wife and children, [6] leaving only the garments of his body value £30, sword £3, belt (&c) £4.10s. totalling £37.10s.
