The evidence for Henry's identity lies in the 1875 census taken at Augusta, Oneida County, New York. In it, there is a head of household James, 33, a farmer, Henry his brother, also a farmer, age given in transcription as 49 but reading as 42 on the original record, and Martha, 27, listed as a sister of James whereas she was actually Henry's wife. At the next census (in Marshall, Oneida, 1880) H.T.Oliver is 46, Martha is 33 and they have a daughter Dora, 4. Henry and Martha are also named on Dora's marriage affidavit (where her age has been reduced). Dora married Bertram Adams. Her death record (at Vernon, Oneida) shows her age reduced further (possibly because she was older than her husband). It states that she died on 3 February 1961 and had been born on 24 December 1878. The birth date is clearly incorrect as her age was recorded as 4 in 1880. Further confirmation that Henry was indeed a son of James and Ann is given (circumstantially) in the fact that he and Martha are buried in Hillside Cemetery, Oriskany Falls, as are his siblings Elizabeth, William, Charles, James, Katherine, Ellen and Laura.
