Biography

George Onslow, 1st Earl of Onslow (1731-1814) was the son of Rt. Hon. Arthur Onslow and Anne Bridges. He married Henrietta Shelley, daughter of Sir John Shelley, 4th Bt. and Hon. Margaret Pelham, on 26 June 1753. A MP for Rye and Surrey, he was created 1st Baron Cranley of Imbercourt, co. Surrey [Great Britain] on 20 May 1776. He succeeded as 4th Baron Onslow and 5th Baronet Onslow on 8 October 1776. He was created 1st Earl of Onslow, of Onslow, Shropshire and 1st Viscount Cranley of Cranley, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 19 June 1801.
