Thomas was the son of John and Sarah Owen. He was working as a cowman on a farm in Montgomery in the 1911 census.
He enlisted in August 1914 into the 7th Battalion the Welsh Fusiliers in Welshpool and the following year he landed at Gallipoli from where he was evacuated in December that year. They were then moved to Egypt to guard the Suez Canal. Having driven the Turks out of Sinai, they turned their attention to driving them out of Palestine.
At some point Thomas was taken prisoner of war and nothing further was heard of him
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial
