Biography

OBITUARY: Jose A. Pacheco, of Chamisal passed from this life in the early hours of the morning of February 4, 2023. He was born February 17, 1936 in Chamisal to Fermin and Virginia Pacheco. He was 6th of ten children. Jose was a was a very devoted Catholic. He would listen to the mass twice a day daily. He served as a Caballero De Vargas in Santa Fe for 17 plus years. Jose liked to play the accordion, harmonica, and the organ. He was a good dancer and loved music. He also liked watching western movies. Jose thought of his sister Reggie as his second mother.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents Fermin and Virginia (Vasquez) Pacheco. Sisters Ernestine Cordova and Carlotta Garcia. In laws Carlos Garcia, his sons Brian, Richard, and Joseph Pacheco. In laws Sam Cordova, Benjamin Casados, Robert Johnson and Ermerlinda Pacheco.

He is survived by his son Raymond Pacheco from Santa Fe. His grandsons Scott Pacheco and wife Nicole from Espanola, BJ Pacheco from Las Vegas NM, Claudia Urisole, and Martin Pacheco. Great grandchildren Natasha Pacheco, Arlena Pacheco and Marisol Pacheco. Brothers Aurelio Pacheco from Santa Fe, Adonio and wife Lillian Pacheco from Taos and Frank and wife Elaine Pacheco from El Paso. Sisters Edonila Casados from Chamisal, Helen Johnson from Santa Fe, Regina Pacheco from Chamisal, Virginia and husband Roger Dominguez from Chamisal, and Sarita Lopez from Chamisal. Good friend Eliza Martinez. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at El Centro Family Health, Laura McCutcheon. Thanks to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital, the Santa Fe Care Center Nursing Home and DeVargas Funeral Home.

A public viewing will be on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in the Chapel of Peace, and a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m.. A mass will be held at the San Antonio de Padua in Penasco on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Chamisal Catholic Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Scott Pacheco, Rodrick Dominguez, Adonio Pacheco Jr, Frankie Lopez, John Abeyta and Cody Romero. Honorary pallbearer Raymond Pacheco.
