Miriam Packer, with her parents Rosanna, William and other siblings participated in an assisted emigration to New Zealand. They left England aboard the James Nicol Fleming on 4 May, 1875 and arrived in Otago August 11, 1875.
For the various reports of the ship's arrival see this entry. One of the deaths reported onboard during the journey was of Gertrude Hibbard, whose name appears on the passenger list the page before the Packer family. The family settled in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.
