16 Mar 1823: Edward Pankhurst, son of Isaac and Philadelphia, christened at Heathfield, Sussex, England.[1]
1846: Apprehended for stealing a lamb. In 1846 [John Matthews] was lodging in Burwash with labourer Edward Pankhurst (twenty-seven) when the pair stole a lamb apiece, clearly for their own consumption as the police discovered 'a crock' full of meat concealed under a wash-house brick floor.[2]
18 Jun 1848: Marriage of Edward Pankhurst, son of Isaac, and Hannah Luck, daughter of William, at Mayfield, Sussex, England.[3] Known issue:-
1849: Convicted with John Matthews at Sussex Assizes at Lewes. Matthews had legally returned from an 1838 seven-year transportation for thieving five ducks at Waldron. Perhaps Pankhurst, who had no known record, was harshly dealt with owing to his companion's past, as they were both exiled, respectively for seven and ten years.[2]
19 Sep 1851: Transported[4] following conviction by Sussex Assizes at Lewes.[6]
