Biography
Bertha Pansegrau was born in 1873 in Wisconsin of German-born parents, Frederick W. Pansegrau and Johanna Caroline Barmel; Bertha's first language was German. In the early 1880s they were in Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin. They moved to Mellette, Spink County, Dakota Territory, after 1882. Bertha married (George) Herbert VanderWater in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1895. In 1900 they were in Garretson, South Dakota. They were in Muskegon, Michigan, from before 1906 until about 1921, and thereafter in San Diego County, California. They had a son and a daughter. He died at San Diego in 1945 and Bertha in 1949. They were buried in Greenwood Memorial Park.
