Asahel was the son of Lemuel and Sarah (Kelsey) Parmelee
He married Rhoda Norton, daughter of John and Mary (Griswold) Norton, on 13 May 1771 at Killingworth, Middlesex, Connecticut - parents of Asahel II, Orren, Rhoda, Moses, Mary, Rufus and Sarah Parmelee
He served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Bezeliel Bristol's Co. of Connecticut Militia at the Alarm at East Haven on 5 Jul 1779
He is buried at Union Cemetery, Killingworth, Middlesex, Connecticut, USA (he is buried as Asahel Parmele)
