Edward was born in 1872. He is the son of Thomas Partington and Sophia Clague. He was baptised at Lonan, Isle of Man on 25 Aug 1872. At the time his parents were living at Ballamilgin near Laxey, Lonan and his father was a miner.[1]
In 1888 Edward was a driver for a bread van when a young boy who accompanied him was thrown from the top of the van and died when the horse bolted.[2] Only a few months later in Feb 1889 he was fined for selling under-weight bread. The magistrate was surprised they were charging a 16 year old, but that was the way the law was framed.[3]
In the 1891 Census he is living with his widowed mother and 8 siblings in Lonan. He is a driver.[4]
In the 1901 Census he is living with his widowed mother in Lonan with 4 of his brothers. He is an electric wire man.[5]
He migrated to South Africa in 1903.[6]
He returned from Johannesburg, South Africa where he was construction manager for the Johannesburg Electricity Supply in Jul 1907 for a 6 month holiday.[7]. He married Harriett Cannell on 08 Aug 1907 at Christ Church Laxey, Lonan.[8]
In 1920 he was appointed to a Committee of Enquiry looking at options following the closure of the Great Laxey Mine.[9]
He died at Noble's Hospital, Douglas in 1925.
