Howard Patt was born in 1917 in Philadelphia, PA to Louis Patt and Rose Otto.
His family moved to Phoenix, Arizona for many years to open a pharmacy as part of a family chain.
As a teen, Howard moved to Los Angeles and lived with his uncle, Abe Otto.
He graduated from Fairfax High School, Los Angeles, CA in 1934.
In 1942 he graduated from the University of California with a medical degree.
He went into the army in August of 1942 as a medic and served as a paratrooper medic in France. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of major.

He did his surgical residency at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, in the late 1940's.
He practiced in Baltimore as a surgeon until his retirement in the 1980's.
On August 3, 1947, he married Shirley Berman in Baltimore, Maryland.
They had 3 sons: Robert, Stephen, and Richard.
He and his wife lived in Baltimore until her death in 2001.
He moved to Texas and lived with his youngest son, Rick, from 2003 to 2013.
After Rick died he moved to Santa Monica where he lived for several months until his death.
He died at the age of 95 on April 25, 2013, in an assisted living home in Santa Monica, CA.
