Biography

Born in 1764 Peter Patten was the second but eldest surviving son of Thomas Patten of Bank and his wife, Dorothea Bold daughter of Peter Bold of Bold. Educated at Clitheroe Grammar School under the Reverend Thomas Wilson he also attended Corpus College, Oxford.

On 22 May 1790 he married Mary Parker, daughter of the Reverend John Parker of Astle in Cheshire and Breightmet in Lancashire. Together they had four daughters.

Peter was first returned to Parliament as Member for Newton in 1797 which seat he held until 1806 and in 1807 was member for Lancaster. He succeeded his father in 1806 and in 1813 succeeded to the Bold Estate on the death of his aunt, Anna Maria Bold, at which time he took the additional name of Bold. Also that year he was returned to Parliament as member for Malmesbury in Wiltshire.

Peter Patten-Bold died in 1819 and was buried on 17th October.
