Sir William Payne-Gallwey, a former British MP, sustained "severe internal injuries" when he fell over and landed on a turnip while out hunting. He died a few days later.
He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Payne [U.K., 1812] on 16 April 1831. He gained the rank of Major in the 7th Fusiliers. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Thirsk between 1851 and 1881.1 On 2 October 1882 his name was legally changed to William Payne-Frankland by Royal Licence. He had seven issue - three daus, four sons.
