Biography

Jean Pelletreau, a native of Arces in Saintonge, was in the West Indies before coming to New York City in 1686. His wife was Magdalena Vincent, a native of St. Martins on the Ile of Re, France. He was accompanied by two nephews, Elie Pelletreau and Jean Peletreau of the family of Paul and Esther [Gouin] Peletreau. Elie married in the French Church, New York City, 9 Oct. 1692, Marie Benoist, daughter of Jean and Judith [Bourden] Benoist. Elie had a son John, married in the French Church, New Rochelle, 7 Feb 1710, to Jeanne Many of the town. Jean Pelletreau and his nephews were ships chandlers in New York. Jean purchased land in New Rochelle in 1690, some of which was inherited by his wife Magdalena. 8/9/2011 copied from a Family tree on Ancestry.com[1]

In 1701, Ambroise Sicard made privision in his will that Jacques, my son, will help Guillaume Landrin, my son-in-law, to build a house 28 feet long and 16 feet wide and help plough 2 acres of land and will furnish one half of all that will be necessary for said house. Fourthly, I so will and desire that Guillaume Landrin and Marie, my daughter, shall have for themselves and their heirs the third of 95 acres acquired of Guillaume le Conte to be taken from one end from the land of Daniel, obtained from (Jean) Peletreau, and the other end to Ambroise; for these two thirds from one side to the Roux and the other to the said Le Conte, on which side he will allow a passage way 20 feet wide between Le Conte and Ambroise to serve the said Ambroise and his heirs forever to join the main line. [This site is located at the NE corner of 5th St & North Ave., New Rochelle. The earlier part of this house conformed exactly to these dimensions and was of wood with a stone gable.][2]
