Gordon was born in 1925. He graduated from Hamilton Normal School. Served in the armed forces for 2 and a half years. He taught public school in Hamilton 1949 - 1959 and then at the Toronto Teachers College 1960- 1969. He retired from York County Board of Educationin Aurora. He had taught science for 32 years. Gordon was honoured as a "fellow of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education." In 1982 he was writing as Dr. Zed for Owl Magazine. He authored " Dr. Zed's Brilliant Nook of Science Experiments." He received the Order of Canada in 1996 for his education of young people in Science. His other interests included - lapidary [ gems] orchid raising, bread making, kites, wild flowers and photography. Later in life he was a volunteer at the Ontario Science Centre and tour guide at the Metro Toronto Zoo.
