Biography
Hamilton Eliot Perkins, son of Roger Perkins and Esther Blanchard, was born 23 Nov 1806 at Hopkinton NH and died 16 Jan 1886.[1]
He attended Norwich University in VT and Phillips Exeter Academy and later law school at Harvard College.[2]
He married Clara Bartlett George on 14 May 1833[2] and their George Hamilton Perkins (the future commodore) was born at Perkins Manor in 1835. Hamilton was a counselor-at-law and member of the Merrimack County bar. He built profitable mills at Contoocookville (now called Contoocook) on the Contoocook River. In 1843, the family moved to Boston, where Hamilton invested in shipping, including trade with West Africa.[3]
He retired to Merrimack County NH in 1857, where he lived the rest of his life.[2]
