Samuel was born on June 27, 1872 to Franklin W. and Elizabeth Miller Pfaff of Forsyth County, North Carolina. Samuel Alonzo Pfaff passed away on February 24, 1942. Samuel was a member of Christ Moravian Church in Forsyth County, North Carolina, and was buried in the Salem Moravian Graveyard, known as "God's Acre".
