Frederick Arthur Phelps was born on 30th September 1909 in Ulmarra, New South Wales, Australia. He was the eldest son of William Phelps and Catherine Keogh. [1]
Frederick married Doreen Hayter in 1931 in Byron Bay, New South Wales. [2]
On 9th January 1942, just weeks after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and invaded Malaya, Frederick enlisted in the Australian Army's Volunteer Defence Corps to do what he could for his country's defence part-time during this fast-escalating Second World War. He was a Private in New South Wales' 1st Battalion, based at Lismore. The war won, he was discharged on 24th September 1945. [3] For his service he was awarded the Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
Aged 83 years, Frederick passed away in early 1993 in New South Wales. [4]
