Biography

George was born in East Oakley, Basingstoke, Hampshire in 1813.^[1] In June 1832, George enlisted in the 2nd Regiment of the Grenadier Guards.^[2] The Regiment would serve in Canada from 1838 to 1842,^[3] where George's daughter Elizabeth was born. The family was back in Britain, at the barracks in Winchester in 1851.^[4] George was discharged from the Grenadier guards in May 1853. He was Colour Sergeant at the time of his discharge and his commanding officer reported that "his character and conduct were very good."^[2] During his time with the Guards, George picked up a trade as a blacksmith.^[2] No further record has been found for George, but he likely returned to Canada, as his daughter Elizabeth would marry there.
