Biography

John was born in 1717 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was the son of John Piborn and Sarah Unknown. The elder John moved his family to Prince George's County, Maryland around 1724 and remained there until his death in 1747.

After his father's death, John and his brothers moved to Lunenburg County, Virginia. That move took place sometime shortly before 1750. John likely remained in Bedford CO. (formed from Lunenburg in 1754) until about 1765. He made land entries in 1765 on Smith and Pigg Rivers - land which was located in today's Henry and Franklin Co. John apparently never formalized his ownership with a land grant so we don't know if he actually lived on one of those properties.

Little, if anything, is known about John's family life - at least with any degree of certainty. It seems likely that he did marry and some have reported sons John, Benjamin and James, all born in the 1740's in Maryland. Some of the same reports suggest his wife's maiden surname was Lawrence.

He passed away after 1765.
