Biography

Paul was born on January 23,1921 in Sturgis, Michigan. He was the second child of Maynard Pickels and IvaBelle Makyes. His older brother, named Maynard too, was born in 1920, and his younger sister, Naomi was born in 1926. Paul married Esther Ada Gutheil on August 9, 1946. First daughter, name unknown, was born on January 12, 1944. Second daughter, Margaret was born on October 4, 1946. And final daughter, Patricia, was born on May 17, 1948 in Seattle, WA. He joined the US Navy and fought in the Pacific theatre from August 1942 and served until his honorable discharge in September 1945. He was married in June 1944 to Marjory Evens and divorced in 1946. After WWII, he returned to Seattle instead of his home state of Michigan, where he married his second wife, Esther after divorcing first wife.

His father had been a farmer and a carpenter, which is where he picked up those skills. He worked first at being a farmer at Midway, near Renton, then went to work for Boeing. He spent his life working as a union carpenter, living in Renton, WA., later on. He retired about 8 years before he quietly passed away at home on July 18,1996. He is interred in the Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA., together with his loving wife Esther who had passed away before him, on October 9, 1992. ^[1]
