Biography

Selina Pearce was born in May 1880 in Tipton, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of John Pearce and Eliza Jones. ^[1] She was christened on June 3, 1880 at their local parish St. Mark's in Tipton, Staffordshire. ^[2]

The following year, according to the England census, Selina was 10 months old and living with her parents and two older siblings at their home in Tipton, Staffordshire. ^[3]

In 1891 she was 10 years old and living with her parents and three siblings at their home on High Street in Kingswinford, Worcestershire. Her father was employed as a fish salesman. ^[4]

In 1901 she was 20 years old and working as a polisher of tin works and living with her mother and two siblings at their home in Kingswinford, Staffordshire. ^[5]

She married Joseph Homer on May 18, 1902 in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England. ^[6] Together they had 5 children:

1. John Malcolm Homer (1902-1986)
2. Eliza Homer (1904–1999)
3. Joseph Homer (1910–1994)
4. William Homer (1912–1986)
5. Robert Homer (1914–1999)

Two years later she immigrated with her family to Canada via Ellis Island, USA. They had planned to go to the Buffalo area to meet up with her brother Robert Pearce in Niagra Falls, United States, but when there decided to go to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. ^[7] Her husband worked in a special field of the steel industry that was active at the time in Hamilton.

In 1911, according to the Canada census, Selina was 32 years old and living with her husband and children at their home on Bay Street in Hamilton, Ontario. ^[8]

In 1921 she was 41 years old and living with her husband, children and Eliza Homer (age 77, grandmother) at their home on Bay Street in Hamilton, Ontario. ^[9]

Selina Homer died in about 1951 in Hamilton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Ontario, Canada. ^{[citation needed]}

Research Notes

• Some family trees include a child named James Homer who died in Wentworth, Ontario in 1917, aged 6 months. The parents' names were Joseph Homer and Stacey Perrin, which could potentially have been an error in the mother's name (initials would match). However, when viewing the image, the child died at their home on 22 Burlington Street in Hamilton. Joseph and Selina lived on Bay street in 1911 and 1921, presumably they also lived there in 1917.
