William was born about 1650, estimated from marriage.
He married Grace Hanson in February 1576 at Haworth, Yorkshire, "William Pighills of Haworth Parish and Grace Hanson of Heptonstall Parish".[1][2] They had children Martha and Grace, both "of William Pighills of Lawnd in Staires". Stairs is a district of Oxenhope, part of Haworth township.
"William Pighills of Lawnd" attended the Haworth Manor Court on 12 June 1688. He was doing fealty for land inherited from "his late father" John Pighills. In the full description he is described as "William Pighills of Lawnd in Stanbury". It is possible that Stanbury may be an error for Stairs, as these were two different places at either side of the main village.[3]
