His family moved to Manatee County c. 1885.

Donated land east of his property in 1910 towards the construction of Palm Sola Community Church.[4]
A well-known resident of Manatee County, he was hired by the Audubon Society in 1910 to be a part-time warden and provide protection for the 102 species of birds on Passage Key, which had been designated a Federal Bird Reservation by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905.
