Biography

Edward Plews was born in Yorkshire, England.

Edward Pluves was born July 8, 1861 in Muston, Yorkshire to William Pluves and Rosanna Willison. He was the fourth child and first son of the family; he had three older sisters, Jane, Mary and Ann, and following his birth he had three younger siblings, a sister Louisa and two brothers, John and James. Edward was Christened on August 18, 1861 where his surname was recorded as "Plews".^[1]

By 1871, Edward and his family had moved inland from Muston to Lofthouse, approximately two hours away.^[2] In 1881, Edward was working as an ironstone miner, and he lived with his sister Jane and her family in Skiningrove.^[3]

On May 26, 1883 Edward married Annie Simpson in Brotton, Yorkshire.^[4]

By age 29, Edward lived in Middlesbrough as a steel works scrap creaker and he and Annie had welcomed three children, John, Almedia, and Edward into their family.^[5] In 1911, both Edward's nephew Edward Wood, by his sister Jane, and Almedia's daughter Phyllis lived with Edward and Annie.^[6]

Edward passed away on January 16, 1943 in Grangetown, Middlesbrough, aged 80.
