Biography

John Pontifex was born on 11 Feb 1796 in London. He was christened on 13 Mar 1796 at St Andrew's Church in Holborn. He was the son of William and Mary Pontifex.

John became a solicitor. He married Mary Marshall on 3 Aug 1825 in Godalming, Surrey.

Mary died on 7 Nov 1864, aged 60, at her home in Crowns Hill, Blackheath. She was buried on 14 Nov 1864 in Nightingale Cemetery, Godalming, in the consecrated section.

John died on 7 May 1875, aged 79, at his home in Grooms Hill, Greenwich. He was buried on 15 May 1875 next to his wife.
