Gordon was born in 1913. He is the son of James Porter and Ethel Slaughter. My Great Uncle Gordon made the ultimate sacrifice for his country December 22, 1944. He and his younger brother Charles both enlisted in the US Army March 24, 1941. Their 2 year enlistment was extended when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. Gordon died just over 3 years later at the Siege of Bastongne in Belgium. He was originally buried in France. His mother Tothie wanted him home. She wrote countless letters pleading with the War Department to have her son returned to her. After a four year struggle, Gordon was finally returned to the United States and buried at Barrancas National Cemetery in Florida. Thank you Uncle Gordon for your sacrifice. I want to make sure you are not forgotten.
