• Edward was born in 1898.^[1] He was baptised on the 28th of July 1898, at Child Okeford, Dorset, England.^[2] He was born to the parents of Harriette Mary Stevenson and Claud Berkeley Portman, 4th Viscount Portman of Bryanston.^[1]

• Edward was married on the 12th of April 1926, to the Hon. Sybil Mary Douglas-Pennant, daughter of the Hon. Blanche Georgiana FitzRoy and Colonel Hon. Edward Sholto Douglas-Pennant, 3rd Baron Penrhyn of Llandegai.^[1] They were married at St. Martin, London, England.^[3]
