George was born in 1906. He was the son of George Potter and Helen Rice. [1] He was raised in Montana.[2] He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He joined the military in 1927. [3] He was at training in Paris Island in 1930. [4] He served on the ship President Taft in 1933. He was a prisoner of war during WWII.[5] He married Octavia Kramer. they had at least 1 child:

In 1940, he was stationed in San Diego, California.[6] Before retiring, George attained the rank of Brigadier General. George died in 1983[7] and is buried in
Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia. [8] There is also a marker in Plains Cemetery, Plains, Sanders, Montana.[9]
