Biography
John Preece was born in Glamorgan, Wales.
John was born about 1858 in Eglwysilan. The birth doesn't appear to have been registered. Some of the census records suggest a possible middle name of "Wycliffe", but the handwriting is poor and it isn't possible to safely conclude this. His gravestone simply says John Preece.
In the 1880s he set up business as an ironmonger in Porth, Rhondda. His shop on Hannah Street supplied a number of the local coal-mining companies, and his business was very successful. He was a well-known and respected person of the Rhondda area.
He passed away in 1939 and was buried in the Trealaw cemetery.
