From the 1900 Preston Genealogy:^[1] The incorrect pedigree of William Preston immigrant to New Haven Colony. Just looking at the dates should convince that this is illogical. A man (William) who was 44 in 1635 was not the fourth generation from a man (George) who married in 1634.

First Generation:
George Preston, seated at Valley Field estate, Yorkshire, England, was made Baronet of Nova Scotia, 31 March 1637. He married Marion Semphill in 1634. He died 26 Nov 1679. Children 1. George (from a first marriage. 2. William m. Anna Saunders

2nd Generation;
William Preston died 23 April 1685. His wife Anna Saunders died 9 Feb 1688. Children: 1. William (male issue became extinct). 2. Richard Preston (heir to the estate of Valle Field. 3. Ellen. 4. Alice 5. John.

3rd Generation: This profile.
John Preston, son of William and Anna Saunders, had children 1. William (Ancestor of the Prestons in New England. 2. John.

4th Generation:
William sailed on the Truelove with wife etc...

Succeeding generations have adjusted the dates to better fit reality, by changing the 1600 dates to 1500s. But note that there was a George Preston of Valleyfield made Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1637.

More recently attempts have been made to reconcile the two pedigrees by adding the known father, Adam, of William the immigrant as an additional son of the 3rd generation William (m. Anna Saunders). This John who was once believed to be the father of William the immigrant, is now ignored.
