In 1900, the Prima family lived in Bertrandville Village, Plaquemines, Louisiana. The household included Leonard Prima, 51, born August 1849 in Italy. His parents were born in Italy. Leonard, his wife and oldest child, Frank immigrated from Italy to the United States in 1881. Leonard was a naturalized citizen who could read, write and speak English. He was a farmer who owned their farm with a mortgage; his wife of 25 years, Lizzie, 57, b. March 1843. She was born in Italy, as were her parents. She had had eight children, seven of whom were living. Lizzie could not read or write English; their seven children, all born in Louisiana, except for the oldest, Frank, 23, b. Italy in September 1877, a day laborer; Frances, 15, b. July 1885; Anthony, 13, b. Oct (1886); Richard, 11, b. Apr 1889; Rosa, 9, b. July 1891; Joseph, 7, b. Sept 1893; and Lizzie, 5, b. May 1895. [4]

In 1910, the Prima family lived in New Orleans. The household included Leon Prima, 68, born in Italy, a naturalized citizen who immigrated with his wife in 1888, who worked in a grocery store, and owned their home without a mortgage; his wife of 32 years, Elisabeth, 53, b. Italy, who had had seven children, all living; their three children, all b. Louisiana: Richard, 21, a teamster for a notions store; Joe, 17; and Lizzie, 14. Living nearby was Leona and Elisabeth’s son Frank and his family. This household included FRANK PRIMA, 30, b. Italy, a nationalized citizen (Census states in error that he came to the US in 1903. He immigrated with his parents in 1888), Frank was a teamster, driving a (soda) “pop wagon.” He rented their home; his wife of seven years, Eliza, 28, b. In Louisiana, whose parents were b. In Italy, who had had five children; their five children, all b. Louisiana: Leonard, 5; Leona, 6; Louis, 4; Anthony, 3, and Emily, 1. Also living nearby in another house was Leon and Elisabeth’s son Anthony. This household included ANTHONY PRIMA, 23, a teamster for a pop wagon; his wife of three years, Lena, 21, whose parents were born in Italy, who had had one child; and their son Leon, 2. All members of this household were born in Louisiana. NOTE: please click on the next Census page to view the Anthony Prima family entries. [5]

Leonardo Prima and Elisabetta Anteotia are mentioned in the marriage record of their son Anthony. Lena (Angelina) Caravella, 18, b. about 1888 in Ustren (?) Italy, the daughter of Luigi Caravella and Margherita Valente, married Anthony Prima, 20, b. about 1886 in New Orleans, the son of Leonardo Prima and Elisabetta Anteotia. Witnesses to the ceremony were Frank Prima and Leonardo Prima, which took place on 5 September 1906 in New Orleans, Louisiana. [6] [7]

Leonard died on 12 April 1912. He is buried with his wife in St. Joseph Cemetery #1, New Orleans, Louisiana. NOTE: FindAGrave has some errors on the Prima family profiles. For instance, they show that Leonard died at age 73-74, but it clearly appears on his gravestone that he died, aged 62, which would put his birth year as 1849-50, which lines up with the 1900 Census record. [8]

Leonard and Elisabeth’s son, Richard, and his wife Mary (La Salle) Prima as well as an Elisabeth M. Prima (1913-1914) are buried in the same cemetery. Richard was born 2 April 1889, and died on 19 December 1947. [9]
