Biography
Hugh was born about 1838, possibly in Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of William Quaite, a farmer.
In 1860 he married Matilda Weir in St Anne's Parish Church, Belfast. He was a 22 year old blacksmith from Islandmagee and she was a 22 year old from Belfast. The witnesses were James Robinson and James Weir.[1]
In 1901 he was a 60 year old blacksmith living with his wife and 20 year old daughter Ellen Quaite in Gransha, Islandmagee.[2]
In 1911 he was a 73 year old widower and blacksmith living with his daughter Ellen Quaite, aged 32, in Gransha, Islandmagee.[3]
Hugh passed away in 1919 in Gransha, Islandmagee, aged 82 years, from senile decay and cardiac failure. He was a widower and a blacksmith and his death was registered by his son John Quaite of Gransha.
