Biography

BOOK - RICE COUNTY FAMILIES. PUB. 1981 The Quiggle Family. Wallace John Quiggle, son of Corwin Wells Quiggle, who was a Civil War veteran, was born March 12, 1880, in Faribault County near Blue Earth, MN. He grew up there and married Alma Marie Heinrich, January 22, 1908. From this union 7 children were born: Helen, Faribault; Dorothy (Miller), Startup, WA; Harold, Faribault; Orville (deceased September 23, 1973); Ruth (Thielbar/Daws), Renton WA; and Ralph, Minneapolis, all of whom were born in Faribault County. In November 1919 the family moved to a farm in Warsaw Township for 5 years. He was a member of the Duroc Breeders Association and put in many long hours of volunteer work for the Rice County Fair during his farming years. Wallace retired in 1945 when he and Alma moved to Faribault. It wasn't until then that he started bowling (the bowling alley was located downstairs in the Faribault Hotel at that time). He bowled until he was approximately 95 years old. Alma died November 1, 1959, at the age of 74. Wallace is a faithful member of Fourth Avenue Methodist Church, a long-time member of the Odd Fellows Fraternal Lodge and has a life membership in the Faribo Golden Age Club. He is a member of the Rice County Farm Bureau and this picture was taken when he was being honored by the Farm Bureau on his 100th birthday in March 1980. He lives for his family reunions. He has 28 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
