Joseph Raine -KIA- is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Joseph Raine was born in 1895 at Brisbane, Queensland (Australia).

He was the son of Robert Rean and Elizabeth Burdett.

Joseph Raine enlisted on 03 July 1916 to serve with the Australian Army during World War 1.

At Hooge, France on 20th Sept., 1917.

During operation in Glencorse Wood and Polygonvelde Woods, Pte Raine, a Lewis Gunner, after the remainder of his team had become casualties, remained at his post which was being heavily shelled, and continued to use his gun.

When his Company was relieved, he was overlooked, but remained on duty at his post until next day. His splendid courage and determination set a fine example to his comrades.

  • Sadly Joseph Raine was killed in action on 04 November 1917 at Passchendaele, Ypres, Belgium.
  • He is buried at Buttes New British Cemetery Polygon Wood, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
